Korean Lessons ᚛ Level 4 - Intermediate Korean #1 (Lessons 91 to 120) ᚛ Lesson 117 - The choice "or" between verbs in Korean [-거나] [-든(지)]

The choice "or" between verbs in Korean [-거나] [-든(지)]

In this course: 든지 / 거나

In the previous lesson, we saw how to say "or" between nouns. Let’s now see how to express a choice with verbs.

The choice between several actions with -거나

To express a choice between several actions, that is to say doing one action or else doing another, the -거나 structure is used in the following manner:
[Choice action 1 … Stem]거나 [Choice action 2]

주말에 축구를 보러 가거나 한강으로 소풍을 갈 거야.
→ This weekend I’m going to go watch football or go on a picnic by the Han River.

매운 음식을 먹거나 운동을 하면 스트레스가 풀린다.
→ If you eat spicy food or exercise, your stress will be relieved.

살 게 있어서 퇴근 후 백화점을 가거나 마트를 갈 거예요.
→ Since I have things to buy, after work I’m going to go to the department store or (go) to the supermarket.

빨리 걷거나 가볍게 뛰는 것은 힘들지 않아.
→ Walking fast or jogging lightly is not tiring.

저는 음악을 좋아해요. 그래서 보통 주말에 친구들과 춤추거나 노래하면서 시간을 보내요.
→ I like music. So I usually spend my weekends dancing or singing with my friends.
