To say "as", "in one's capacity as", Korean attaches the particle (으)로서 to the noun: 학생으로서, "as a student", 친구로서, "as a friend". It indicates the status, function or role from which one speaks or acts, and it very often introduces a duty, a responsibility or a point of view.
The particle is built like (으)로: 으로서 after a consonant (except ㄹ), 로서 after a vowel or ㄹ:

The noun is a person, a function or an institution (president, captain, parent, citizen, company). The second part expresses what one must do, what one thinks or what one does in that capacity: -아/어야 하다, -겠습니다, -고 생각합니다. It is a rather polished construction, frequent in speeches, statements and advice.
