Korean Lessons ᚛ Level 5 - Intermediate Korean #2 (Lessons 121 to 150) ᚛ Lesson 142 - Advanced comparison in Korean [-에 비해서]
First of all, the verb 비교하다 is the one whose meaning is closest to the verb "to compare", and it is used in the same way as in English.

→ Compare our products with the products of other companies.

→ I compare prices on the internet and buy from a cheap place.
The verb 비하다, for its part, is also used to make comparisons, but in a different way. Indeed, it is generally coupled with the particle 에 and takes as its ending the -아/어서 structure or the conditional suffix -(으)면.
The -에 비해서 structure is used with a noun in the following manner:
[Noun]에 비해(서) [Comparison]
In this structure, the suffix -서 is optional.
The most appropriate translation of -에 비해서 in English would be "compared to...".
올해 여름은 작년에 비해서 무척 덥습니다.
→ This year’s summer is much hotter compared to last year.
이번 달은 전달에 비해 돈을 못 벌었어요.
→ This month, compared to last month, I couldn’t earn money.

→ Korean is easy compared to Chinese.
농촌에 비해 도시는 사람이 많습니다.
→ Compared to the countryside, there are many people in the city.
In the lesson on comparison and the superlative in Korean, we saw that the particle 보다 is generally used to compare two elements.
