Korean Lessons ᚛ Level 2 - Korean for Beginners #1 (Lessons 31 to 60) ᚛ Lesson 56 - The opposition "but" in Korean
In this chapter, we're going to learn how to create an opposition between two elements. In English, this corresponds to "but", "however", "nevertheless", etc…
It is possible to express opposition in only one sentence. For that, one simply links the two elements of the sentence by adding -지만 after the stem of the first verb, in the following manner:
[Action 1: … Stem]지만 [Action 2]
제 개는 귀엽지만 성격이 나빠요.
→ My dog is cute, but he has a bad personality.
그 가수는 노래를 잘하지만 안 유명해.
→ This singer sings well, but she's not famous.
민지 얼굴은 예쁘지만 성격은 별로야.
→ Minji's face is pretty but her personality isn't very good.
그 친구는 무섭게 생겼지만 사실 착해.
→ That friend looks scary, but he’s actually nice.
주말에 서울에 갈 거지만 민주를 볼 시간은 없어.
→ I'm going to Seoul this weekend, but I won't have time to see Minju.
