Dans ce cours : 한테서 / 에게서 / 한테 / 에게

"From" in Korean

The origin of an action by a person or an animal is expressed in Korean with the help of the particles 한테서 and 에게서. In English, this can be translated as "from".

Like all particles, 한테서 and 에게서 are linked to the nominal group to which they refer, in the following manner:

  • [Noun]한테서
  • [Noun]에게서

에게서 is used in more formal contexts, while 한테서 is more used in everyday life.

부모님에게서 선물을 받았어요.
→ I received a gift from my parents.

친구가 저한테서 돈을 빌렸어요.
→ My friend borrowed money from me.

선생님에게서 전화 왔어요?
→ Did you get a call from the teacher?

민수한테서 부탁 받았어.
→ I received a request from Minsoo.

수정이한테서 이 책을 빌렸어.
→ I borrowed this book from Sujeong.

Note: after a name ending in a consonant, we don't add 한테서 and 에게서, but 이한테서 and 이에게서.

  • 지민 → 지민이한테서
  • 정국 → 정국이에게서

The receiver of an action

The particles 한테 and 에게, as for them, indicate the receiver of an action performed by a person or animal. In English, we can translate them as "to".

Like all particles, 한테 and에게 are attached to the nominal group to which they are related, in the following manner:

  • [Noun]한테
  • [Noun]에게

에게 is used in a more formal context, while 한테 is used more in everyday life.

여자친구한테 편지를 쓸게요.
→ I will write a letter to my girlfriend.

저는 그분에게 선물을 줄 거예요.
→ I am going to give him a gift.

지수한테 네 안부 전해 줄게.
→ I will say hi to Jisoo for you.

그 소식 초롱이에게 말했어?
→ Have you told that news to Chorong?

내일은 보라에게 방 청소를 시킬 거야.
→ Tomorrow I will make Bora clean her room.
